What does Used Car Warranty Cover

In our previous article on car warranty policies, we looked at the various options available when it comes to purchasing car warranty, for both new and used vehicles.

We discussed how it is possible to find car warranty online at reduced prices and that you should be able to find at least the same level of cover that you would expect when buying a policy from a car showroom.

The key is to identify what you expect to get from a car warranty policy and to check that the cover that is being offered is adequate for your needs.

Here are some pointers on some key issues to look out for:

Check to see what is excluded: All car warranty policies will include a list of exclusions. The items that are excluded will vary from one policy to the next, so it's always worth comparing policies to see what the differences are.

If there is something on your car that you particularly want included as part of the warranty, then checking the exclusions becomes particularly relevant. Be aware, though, that more exclusions are likely to apply to older vehicles.

Consider the level of excess: Often car warranty policies will include a standard excess. If, for example, the excess is set at £100 then this means that you will have to pay for the first £100 of work that is covered by the warranty.

Excess levels can vary considerably, so make sure that you shop around and compare policies. It's also worth noting that there may be higher excesses in place for specific items (for example, if your in-car stereo is covered as part of the car warranty policies).
