Finding Good Car Warranties
Finding the right warranty for your new or used car is about paying the right price and receiving the correct amount of cover.
In our articles on used car warranties, we took a look at some of the finer points of detail that you should be looking out for when you come to decide on which warranty policy to purchase.
Our list below includes items that you could expect to find covered on a good car warranty policy:
The Clutch: The clutch is an item of the vehicle that is excluded on many policies, particularly when it comes to second hand cars. Since this is a part of the vehicle that's prone to failure, if you can find a policy that includes clutch faults then you're off to a good start.
Low Excess: If the excess level on the policy is set too high then you might find that it just doesn't make much financial sense to have the warranty in the first place.
In-Car Entertainment Systems: If you've spent a lot of money upgrading your entertainment systems, then you'll want to make sure that they are covered as part of the warrantly. Unfortunately, many car warranty policies specifically exclude entertainment systems.
If you do find a policy that includes your in-car entertainment system, then be warned that the excess on this item is likely to be higher than the standard excess on the policy.
Catalytic Converters: Another key part of the vehicle that is often excluded under many warranties.
Service Details: Some car warranty policies insist that services are carried out by the manufacturer (at a main dealership). Ideally, you should look for a warranty that allows servicing to be carried out at any reputable garage.
Transferrable Policies: If you sell the car then you may wish to sell the warranty with it. It is acceptable to transfer car warranty policies, as long as you find a policy that specifies that this is allowed within the terms of the car warranty policy.
